Himansu Sekhar Khatua is a Bollywood director and educationist. He was born on December 21, 1965, in Bhadrak, Odisha. His father's name is Rabindra Khatua, and his mother's is Kunjalata Khatua. He completed his education in Khatuapatna village, Bhadrak. He has attained a bachelor's degree in Physics. After that, he pursued a Diploma in Cinema from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII). In 1993, he worked as a sound designer for an Odia film, Indradhanura Chhai (Shadows of the Rainbow). As a filmmaker, he debuted with Shunya Swaroopa (Contours of the Void) in 1996. Jayanta Mahapatra wrote his feature film Matira Bandhan (The Inheritance). It was screened at the Mumbai Film Festival and Bengaluru International Film Festival. The movie earned State Film Awards, an Asian Excellency Award at the International level, and was also judged as the best film at the South Korea Film Festival. His feature film The Sea And The Seven Villages has been selected to feature in the Indian Panorama section at the 54th International Film Festival of India.

Khatua is credited with organising the Kalinga Global Film Festival in Odisha. In 2009, he became the Director General of the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT). Khatua headed three departments: KIIT School of Films, KIIT School of Fashion, and KIIT School of Mass Communication. In 2015, he succeeded Dr Achyuta Samanta and became the Managing Director of Kalinga TV. Due to his hard work, Khatua was appointed as the Director of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute by the government of India. He is the first person from Odisha to have achieved this position. He also joined the Biju Pattanaik Film and Television Institute of Odisha.
