Nepali Singer Deep Shrestha

Deep Shrestha is a Nepalese singer and musician. He comes from a musical family in Dharan, Nepal. His father Jaya Narayan Shrestha, was an 'Ustaad’ well known for playing violin and flute. His mother Indira Shrestha, was also a singer. He studied bio-science after his School Leaving Certification, but didn’t continue his studies as he missed his exams three times because he was busy doing musical performances. He is married to Sophiya Gurung. His musical journey started in the late 1960s through cultural programs and other locally organized functions in eastern Nepal. His opportunity to pursue music came when a Dharan theatre team came to Kathmandu for a stage drama and, he got the chance to play the role of a singer in that drama.

His melodious voice attracted the attention of King Mahendra, and the king gave him the permission to record as many songs as he wished. He participated in the national music competition and received first prize in vocals for the song Bidhawako Sindoorko Rahar. He works as an assistant music director at the Nepal Academy, Nepal.
