Jayant Narlikar is an Indian emeritus professor at IUCAA and an astrophysicist. He is known for the Quasi-steady state cosmology and Hoyle-Narlikar’s theory of gravity. Narlikar Sir has made his Scientific Career in Physics, Astronomy. He is also a writer. Narlikar Sir has won the Tyson Medal for astronomy and Smith Prize. He has completed his BSc and Ph.D. Jayant Narlikar was born in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. He belongs to a scholar’s home. His Father’s name was Vishnu Vasudev Narlikar. He was a mathematician and theoretical physicist. Jayant’s father worked as a Professor and Head of the Mathematics department at Banaras Hindu University. Jayant Narlikar’s mother was a Sanskrit scholar. Sumati Narlikar. He was in Fitzwilliam College. Narlikar completed his degree in astronomy and astrophysics at king’s college in Cambridge University while serving as a fellow.
Narlikar also worked as a founding member of the Institute of Theoretical Astronomy in Cambridge. He was also the charge of the Theoretical Astrophysics Group at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. Jayant Narlikar is founder Director of IUCAA. He was the founding member of the World Cultural Council in 1981. Narlikar’s research has given Mach’s principle, quantum cosmology, and action-at-a-distance physics. He also worked in International Astronomical Union as the president of the cosmology commission. Narlikar also worked as an advisor for NCERT Textbooks of Science and Mathematics. Narlikar is honored with National and International awards and has also been honored with doctorates. Jayant Narlikar has received the Padma-VIbhushan award for research work. He is honored by UNESCO with Kalinga Prize for his efforts.
Narlikar wrote a book on his autobiography named Chaar Nagarantale Maze Vishwa. Narlikar has presided over the 94th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan, which was announced at Nasik in 2021. Jayant Narlikar has written novels and short stories. He used to write in English, Hindi, and Marathi languages. Narlikar’s wife is Mangala Narlikar, A mathematics researcher and professor. Narlikar has three daughters named Geeta, Girija, and Leelavati. His daughter is a biomedical researcher at the University of California, San Francisco.
