Charu Shree Roy is a film editor who predominantly works in Bollywood movies. She began her career by getting associated with short films as a director and writer. She has handled multiple short films since 2009, and they included 'Allah Is Great,’ 'Daag Daag Andhera,’ Mr & Mrs. Singh, 'Rip.’ Guddu Engineer,’ 'EI'ayichi' etc.
Charu Shree holds a unique position in directing and editing short films. She has phenomenal experience in editing and directing short films, this is proved with the awards she had received. She has a lot of wisdom and insight to share on editing short films and entering these into film competitions.
She also judged a lot of competitions herself and many times included in the Jury at film festivals. 'Chasing The Rainbow' directed by Charu Shree Roy won the National Award for the best promotional movie in 2013.
In the year 2015, Charu Shree Roy directed 'Chinese Whispers’ which had cinematography by Soumik Mukherjee, and she edited the movie herself. Poonam Gurung and Bramha Mishara starred in lead roles. In this movie, she tried to depict how north-east people face inequality and are often ridiculed by offensive remarks. In 2015, the best short film award went to `Chinese Whispers,’ with Syed Sultan Ahmed carrying home a prize of Rs 1 lakh.
After winning many laurels in short movies, she even had handled editing part of many successful films, and they include ' Lipstick Under My Burkha Click to look into! >> Read More... ,’ ' Lucknow Central Click to look into! >> Read More... ,’ 'Manjha,’ Dil Jo Na Keh Saka,’ 'Doube Seat' etc. The film ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ premiered at the Tokyo and Mumbai Film festivals.
The film won the Spirit of Asia Prize and the Oxfam Award for Best Film based on the theme of Gender Equality. For this movie, Charu Shree Roy received a lot of praise, and the film was also a box office hit. Editing this film was the most challenging task as there were some abusive words, sexual scenes, audio pornography.
Editing in ‘Lucknow Central’ was disappointing as the movie was kept lengthier. However, ‘Dear Dad’ was a good movie that involved a father-son duo balancing the bitter and sweet portion of their life journey, and it was a sophisticated approach taken up by Charu Shree Roy in editing.
