Assamese Actress Sagarika Goswami

Sagarika Goswami is an Indian actress from Assam. She was born in Bamunimaidam, Guwahati. She was the youngest among them and the only girl child. As a kid, she was interested in dancing; the cultural environment she grew up affected her as her father was a renowned Satriya dance teacher.

She first stepped into acting as an 8th grader at school for the Raas festival there. She had done a small role in a one-act play, which led to her TV debut two years later on a serial based on an adapted story from the timeless fables of Burhi Aair Sadhu penned by the famous icon of Assamese literature, Lakshminath Bezbarua, which aired in 1992.

Sagarika, starting from her debut when she was in 10th grade, went on to act in many more serials like Ajir Manuh and Dashami. She had an experience of working in 32 to 35 TV serials when she went on hiatus after marriage. Later, she made a comeback after eight years through the sitcom BharaGhar. She has talked about how she was a bit apprehensive of acting again as Sagarika felt she had not taken enough care of her body. But the shows popularity, once it aired, led to its extending from a few months as a stopgap arrangement to more than six years as a part of Sagarika's career.

She got her break on the big screen through the 1993 film called Rickshawala. In 1999, she received the Moonlight Media Award, presented in recognition of work in Assamese films, mobile theatre, and TV serials. In 2002, she got an award from The Assamese Government for her role in Seuji Dharani Dhuniya. She was also honored by The Assamese Tourism Department in 2004.
