Sonmoni Sarma is a famous theatre and film actor. He is known for the Assamese film 'Bornodi Bhotiai: Love, by the River' released in 2019. He played the role of the lead character ‘Ximanta’ in that movie. He is the first graduate of The National School of Drama (NSD) graduate from Golaghat. He has been a part of various national and international theatre festivals. He has been a part of over 140 plays. He believes that clowning is not merely a form of entertainment, as many people think it to be, but rather a way of living that brings joy to one's life. As far as the general public is concerned, clowns are comedians frequently seen entertaining people in circuses. He organized a twenty-day workshop on clowning for college students that included both experimental and knowledge-sharing activities.
The workshop took place in Bokakhat, Sarupathar, Dergaon, and here. The workshop, the second of its kind by him, has been supported by the Golaghat Amateur Theatre Society. The NSD graduate had held another workshop on the subject of clowning where 18 school students captivated the audience with a performance that lasted for forty-five minutes and was based on three stories from the Panchatantra at the auditorium of Golaghat Amateur Theatre Society recently. This project was given to him by the NSD. A fellowship of this kind is awarded to only ten graduates of the NSD institute every year. He was approaching clowning through the medium of real-life characters in his role as a contemporary actor. He announced that there would be another workshop lasting twenty days that would be held for people who are interested in taking part in theatre. A group known as Rhino Theatre was established by him in Golaghat.
