Sanwari is a romantic drama soap opera that revolves around the life of a woman named Ujala who is portrayed to be a beautiful, smart, kind, and hardworking lady. She lives in a small town but that has never deterred her from dreaming big and studying in a much bigger college in a city. She is studious and is determined to prove herself to be a better and more successful human who is well-established. Her family comprises her sister, brother, and parents. Despite Ujala being a well-mannered person her siblings turn out to be opposites. Her sister Shama is portrayed as a self obnoxious and selfish person while her brother Jalal has a bad reputation for being a thug who robs people of their money by threatening them or by assaulting them.

Jalal later gives the money to their mother Mrs. Sultan. Ujala’s father is portrayed to be a strict parent but he has unconditional love for his children and Ujala is the apple of his eye considering she is the most well-behaved child among the three. Shama gets engaged to a businessman but the marriage is called off when the groom's mother finds out about Jalal being a thug. The change of events leads Shama to marry a man named Taimoor in order to save the reputation of the family. Taimoor is a childhood friend who had admired Shama for a long time. However, Shama is not happy with the marriage and tries everything to get separated from Taimoor. She even claims that Taimoor had abused her after the marriage and that her mother-in-law is a bad person.

When Taimoor exposes her lies Mr. Sultan forces Shama to go back to her husband. However, she still doesn’t learn her lesson and Shama gets into an extramarital affair but gets scammed in the end. On the other hand, Ujala gets in an accident because of a man named Tabrez and is heavily injured. However, during the whole recovery process, Tabrez helps her and checks up on her frequently and gradually falls for her. Ujala even though persistent at first to not fall for Tabrez gradually gives in and both begin a relationship. Tabrez’s mother initially skeptical of their relationship soon finds out that Ujala is the daughter of her brother, hence making Tabrez and Ujala cousins. She now tries to bring them together and get them both married. However, a list of incidents leaves everything in a jumble when Tabrez’s ex Reem comes into the picture. She manages to kidnap Ujala with the help of some thugs and following this incident, Ujala’s mother dies of shock.

When things turn to normal and she is saved, she decides to live for her father and help him overcome the loss. She faces immense guilt when her sister Shama blames her for causing the death of their mother. However, finally after much convincing she decides to marry Tabrez. After the marriage, everything seems to be turning out fine for a few days. Ujala and Tabrez seem to be happy and in love. Shama has also found peace with Taimoor. However, Ujala’s father dies a few weeks after the marriage which shatters the heart of Ujala. She is further broken when her brother Jaal also dies an untimely death. Reem is discovered to be Taimoor’s secret affair and Shama despises this fact.

Further misunderstanding and bad blood are created when Tabrez reveals to his mother that Ujala probably can't get pregnant since the day of the accident, however, he does not reveal this fact to Ujala even after all this time. Shama utilizes this information and creates a rift between Tabrez and Ujala. Reem is also discovered to be pregnant because of Taimoor and more chaos ensues when Tabrez’s mother requests him to marry another woman for the family lineage to continue. How Ujala faces and confronts the problems faced in her married life how the small actions of the past cause major issues in the present and whether the men ever realize their wrongdoings is what constitutes the rest of the episodes.
