Set in the 70s, Motia Sarkar is about a man who makes his journey from a pimp to a spiritual person. He lives in the red light district in Lahore. His mother and sister are Tawaifs. His aunt’s daughter, Chambeli, comes to stay with them after her mother’s death. Chambeli and Motia become close friends. Motia’s mother teaches her dance. Chambeli was sent to school, too. But, his mother sends Chambeli to another Kotha when another Tawaif offers her a lump sum. As Chambeli was his only friend, Motia misses her a lot. What happens next forms the rest of the story.
