The story revolves around Roju and Anbu. The narrator narrates a story about star-crossed lovers. The story dates back to the reign of the Tanjore kings. Roju is a thief. He is portrayed as the destroyer of desires. He always has the itch to steal even when there is no need for that stolen object. He has been caught by police many times as well. Anbu is a pickpocketer. She comes from a well-to-do family. She does not need to steal, but she does it anyway. She is a compulsive thief. She is portrayed as the epitome of bad luck. She has been struck with bad luck since her childhood. The lead characters have not met each other yet. The narrator narrates that the more they steal, the closer they’ll come to each other and fall in love.

Roju has the itch in his hands to steal. He is compelled to steal objects. Even after getting caught by the police, he does not stop. As bad luck stays with Anbu, she gets caught by her family. They curse her and are disappointed. They are sad that she not only carries bad luck but is a thief as well. She continues to pickpocket. They are drawn closer to one another with every theft they pull off. They start getting closer to one another. Destiny has brought them together finally.
