Born in Wazirabad, Pakistan Atif moved to Rawalpindi where he pursued his studies. He moved back to Lahore and attended Punjab College from where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree. Asif was an avid cricket fan and hoped to play cricket for the Pakistani national team but when that didn’t pan out he began singing. He formed a band, Jal, and recorded his first song “Aadat” spending his own money. The song became an instant hit online and was one of the biggest hit at the time. He released his first album Jal Pari which featured “Bheegi Yaadein” which was featured in the Indian movie Zeher by the name “Woh Lamhe”.
Asif continued his solo musical career after he left Jal and worked on two albums, Doorie and Meri Kahani. He performed in sold out concerts at home and internationally touring U.S. and Canada. In 2006 he recorded Tere Bin for the Indian movie Bas Ek Pal. He won Best Playback Singer (Male) at the Filmfare Award for Tere Bin. He continued to lend his vocals for Indian movies and sung songs for Race 1 and 2, among other films.
Atif is currently married to Sara Bharwana, his long-time school girlfriend. He broke many hearts when he tied the knot with her in 2013.
