Plot                                                                      

The first episode begins with Eddie Horniman coming home to become the inheritor of his father’s dukedom and family estate after his father’s death. His father was the Duke of Halstead, who wanted to pass on his property and power to his second son, Eddie. He didn’t want to pass it on to his eldest son, Freddy, possibly because he was irresponsible and reckless. Not long after Eddie takes this new role, he finds out that Freddy owes a large amount debt to Tommy Dixon, a drug dealer. Eddie decides to sell the estate. They talk and she agrees to renegotiate with the drug dealer. However, on the condition that she gets payment in cash. Her second condition is that Freddy must participate in a humiliating video, but because of Freddy’s unstable state of mind, a lot of drama takes place. He even ends up shooting Tommy Dixon. Freddy’s associate tries to escape from the crime scene but is unsuccessful. Susie tries to cover up this murder by hiring a man named Felix to get rid of Tommy’s corpse and kill Jethro. Eddie has a different plan to spare Jethro’s life. He decides to frame Jethro to help him escape from the country. The rest of the plot is about his dealings with dangerous people and how he manages while taking the place of his father as the leader.

Star Performance

Theo James stands out with his crushing performance as the protagonist.

Analysis

A lot of importance was put into the aesthetic of this web series. The style, outfits and grand architecture all represented aristocracy and refinement, which were all appealing to look at. The main character Edward, has a likeable character that goes against the stereotype of rich people being spoilt brats with no sense of responsibility, just entitled, emotionally stunted people. However, Freddy is the opposite of his younger brother. He is irresponsible, reckless, indifferent, has poor judgement, and more. He fits the stereotype of children from wealthy families. However, this stark contrast between the two siblings makes this show interesting, causing the kind of drama that makes us despise one character and root for the other. Most cast members have given a brilliant performance, making their characters compelling and believable. This show is suspenseful, thrilling and entertaining during the first eight episodes. However, after eight episodes, the show starts to feel dragged.

This is an entertaining show for people who like shows that feature aristocratic/elite families, along with a mix of crime and murder to elevate the thrilling experience.
