India’s Dancing Superstars is a premier dance competition where citizens from different backgrounds and cultural parts of the nation come together and participate in it. There are many reality TV shows similar to it, but what makes it different is its openness to various forms of dance. Anybody can participate in it. You can come in groups or can come individually. You can be a couple or in a polygamous relationship. The show first aired on Star Plus in 2013. It was the channel's response to the other dance competitions on other channels. Ravi Dubey, Aishwarya Sakhuja and Mohit Malhotra were the hosts of the show. Geeta Kapoor, the famous choreographer, Ritiesh Deshmukh, the actor and Ashley Lobo, made up the judging panel.
While season one was aired in 2013, season two of India’s Dancing Superstar will air in 2017. MJ5, the dance group from Uttar Pradesh, won during the first season of the show. They later went on to participate in other shows and traveled around the world to gain recognition. The show doesn't follow any strict rules. You can follow whichever style you prefer. There are no rules that you should abide by the theme of the week. You can tell that the format is like India’s Got Talent. The auditions are conducted in many cities during the course of two months.
The selected candidates are made to go through the second round, where they have to again showcase their talents. Twenty Four contestants are chosen to participate in the final round in front of the live audience. The participants showcase their dancing talents by doing Salsa, Samba, Belly Dancing, and many more. All the performances are made with the help of Bollywood songs. After the performance, judges give them a score from between one to ten. The average is then calculated and that is their final score. The contestants then need to ask the public to vote for them. The participant who the public least likes gets less votes and is eliminated.
Various famous personalities come to the show to grow the contestants’ confidence. Many times they also come to promote their movies. There are games and jokes, add dance to that, and it is a complete show. Along with Nach Baliye, this is only the second dancing show on Star Plus.
