Plot: Aaron and Socrates are best friends. Passionate lovers of travelling, they work hard for six months and gather up. They scale the entire country for the rest half of the year. One day cupid strikes Aaron. He falls in love with Kaveri during one of his journeys. However, the couple is separated soon because of an unpredicted twist in the tale. The rest of the movie tells us the way their romance reaches its destination.
Analysis: The enchanting backdrop is the major attraction of Tholi Premalo. The way a tsunami brings in the troubles and turmoils in the lead pair’s love story adds the icing to the cake to this love story. The first half adds to the credits of the film. The comedy sequences in the zamindar’s bungalow are sidesplitting. Director Prabhu Solomon sets a love saga amidst an engrossing backdrop.
While he impresses with the first half, his shaky screenplay in the later half lets the entire experience flush down the drain. Mahendran’s realistic cinematography is remarkable. Imman’s songs are fabulous, and his background score sets itself apart. Samuels’ editing is enough. The visual effects are perfect considering the stringent budget. Sashank Vennelakanti’s dialogues are quite expressive.
Star Performances: The hero Chandran does justice to his role with a spectacular performance. Telugu girl Anandi is quite fabulous and makes a lasting impression with her performance and beauty. Hero’s friend Vincent shines brightly as the accomplice.
What’s there? The backdrop steals the show and the first half. Songs play the role of the main bumpers to the film’s narrative pace. Down-to-earth Tamil romantic movies have always been received well by Telugu audiences. Tholi Premalo is yet another such realistic romantic drama which has a jaw-dropping backdrop and excellent first half. However, a matte finish second half ruins the visual treat leaving the audiences with a lukewarm feel in the end.
What’s not there? The second half is a major drawback. The story appears to end during the interval session as the sequences get boring. Even the chemistry between the lead pair lags behind in clarity. The second half filled with songs which dampen the viewing experience. Heroine’s role lacks clarity.
Verdict: A one time watch won’t cause much harm.
