Plot

Natesha aka Nata is the junior powerman of his village. His sole job is to keep the electricity of his village running. However, on the occasion of the 100^th birthday of the village Dai Sharadamma, he decides to keep the power off. Why does he take this decision, and what is his main purpose?

Star Performances

For all the flaws of this movie, Thrigun turns out as the noble exception.

He carries the film on his shoulders, and does his best to make this watchable.

Analysis

How about a slice of the life movie with a noble message? That is practically the choice of every tenth filmmaker from the southern parts of India.

Thrigun decided to use this very template to launch himself into Sandalwood with ‘Lineman’. The movie is about an electricity worker, who decides to keep the power of the village off for reasons best known to him. But what is the exact reason?

‘Lineman’ is that one film that had its heart and soul in the right place. However, the amateurish direction by V Raghu Shastry ruins the noble message embedded within the narrative of the movie. Conserving biodiversity is never a bad idea, and like ’777 Charlie’ and ‘Kantara’, this film decided to convey the message in a unique way.

The execution is however a different story. While the story or the screenplay isn’t that bad, the execution of the same is. The slick editing makes this film slightly watchable. But nothing beyond that. The film falls short of becoming a masterpiece, thanks to the illogical sequences that become more common in the second half.

However, there are people who try to make up for the mess created by the shoddy direction. Thrigun deserved a better debut in Kannada to be honest. He gives it all for a narrative that is nearly absent to begin with. Though the odds are against him, Thrigun tries his best to ensure that the audience remain engaged as long as he is there on the screen. The supporting cast is equally good, especially B Jayashree, who plays the role of Sharadamma.

Verdict

‘Lineman’ is a movie that gave vibes of films like ‘777 Charlie’ and ‘Kantara’. The movie is not flawless, but the performances from the acting crew try to make up for the mess. You can watch this movie if you are a die hard fan of Thrigun.
