Plot
A makeup artist narrates about an incident in his childhood, that compels him to exercise super self-control. This is because he was cursed by a godman for an innocuous mistake. As he gets attracted to a woman, the artist remembers the prophecy and tries to stay away. Will he overcome his fears?
Star Performances
This film is technically fine. For all the flaws of this film, at least the technical department did a good job.
Apoorva Rao made an earnest effort, despite her role having little to offer. So did some of the supporting cast, with Vishnu Oi and Ajoy Ghosh being the standout performers.
Analysis
Imagine a film, whose narrative is opposite to what the title claims. No, we’re not making this up, that’s precisely ‘Happy Ending’ in a nutshell. It could have been a nice cocktail of fantasy and romantic comedy but ended up being a mushy mixture of both, devoid of both the zing and the soul needed for such a film.
The beginning of the film is not that bad, to be honest. The narrative shows the fun and frolicness of the young protagonist. However, as the film proceeds further, the patience of the audience is tested with every scene. Even before the second half starts, one wonders if they did the right thing by opting for this film.
This is because the narration of this film is simply boring. Despite the best efforts of the lead cast, the audience can’t feel anything for them. This is probably the reason why despite their best efforts, Yash Puri and Apoorva Rao’s performances don’t ‘connect’ with the audience.
However, thanks to the technical department, the film looks somehow watchable. Even the supporting cast did their best, with Vishnu Oi and Ajoy Ghosh’s sequences standing out, even if for just a while.

Verdict
‘Happy Ending’ is a concept that could have worked wonders, had the makers focused a little on the screenplay. However, the acting crew, as well as the technical department, did their best to salvage the efforts. You can watch this film for some mindless entertainment if you like!
