Plot Sming is a story about a hunter Pran Boon or Hunter Boon mourning the loss of his wife and that of an animal in the grief of the death of her child. It is a story of who is hunting whom and a legendary tale that is leaving the village people horrifying. It is about the way the people deal with the mystery that is generations old. Pran Boon, a Hunter, saves the life of a child from a sming thus killing it unaware that it is not the only one in the area. Another sming thus takes revenge on the hunter for killing her child and in return takes away the life of the Pran’s wife and injures his child. Pran Boon now knows that he will never be safe in the area until the sming is dead and therefore takes up the responsibility to find such a hunter in the forest that can kill the sming. He meets a Chinese huntsman, Pran Hlong, who is no less extraordinary.
As time passes, the sming’s hunt increases and all the villager’s lives are in danger. Then, Chart comes to the village to investigate. He gets along with another group of English hunters with the purpose of hunting animals there. A little later, another Cambodian hunter finds himself in the village that is at last able to give them the story of the origin of the sming. What is shocking is that this creature can create illusions to entice its prey. The story shows the various situations these hunters have to face to defeat the sming which in now blinded by one eye. It is interesting to see if the hunters along with the villagers can save themselves or not.
Analysis: The story is written by Pan Visitak is a very different one. The film has a lot of thriller and adventure. Visitak, who is also the director, does a commendable job at direction. It can captivate the viewers. The story is itself so engaging that one can leave the film halfway. The film’s presentation is proper. The cinematography is skillful and very successful in capturing important details and especially creating the realistic background so well. Also, the camera tricks seem to be amazing.
Star performances: The film stars Geoffrey Giuliano as John, Phutharit Prombandal as Pran Boon, Kinn Ratanachuchock as Chinese hunter Pran Hlong, and Winai Wiangyangkung in vital roles. The actors have done pretty well in their respective roles. What is most appreciable is that they are successfully able to bring the sense of tension and horror in the scene and make the viewers feel it.
What’s there? A new and different story with appreciable cinematography and camera tricks.
What’s not there? To some extent, the film also has some unrealistic approach to it.
Verdict: The film is quite good to watch especially on account of the thriller and adventure it offers to the viewers.
