One of the specific genres that have developed in Bollywood is variously labeled as masala action or comedy action drama movies, which has a more or less equal mix of action scenes; stereotyped coinciding events and a dash of humour, with all issues getting resolved by the time the film ends. “ Boss Click to look into! >> Read More... ” incidentally is the remake of the hit Malayalam film of 2010, “ Pokkiri Raja Click to look into! >> Read More... .”
Plot: Veteran Mithun Chakraborty stars as an upright school teacher Satyakant Shastri, who in his sense of righteousness drives out elder son Surya (grown up role played by Akshay Kumar Akshay Kumar was born on 9th September 1967 and hi >> Read More... ) for apparently having killed a fellow student in a skirmish, and starts living with younger son Shiv (grown up role enacted by Shiv Pandit Shiv Pandit was born on 21 June 1984. He is an ext >> Read More... ). Surya in the meanwhile is brought up by Tauji ( Danny Denzongpa For Danny Denzongpa the voyage to the glittering w >> Read More... ), owner of a big transport business and an influential person, whose life Surya had saved. In time, he owns Tauji’s business as his successor and is referred as Boss, for his daring deeds in seeking justice for those less privileged.
Soon enough love ensues as Shiv falls for Ankita (portrayed by Aditi Rao Akbari), who, as normally happens, is the sister of an unscrupulous cop Ayushman (with Ronit Roy Ronit Roy (Ronit Bose Roy) was born on 11th Octobe >> Read More... playing the role). Auyshman in turn is backed by a corrupt Minister, Pradhan (enacted by Govind Namdeo). As expected the love story is beset with thorns before it can move to a happy ending. It takes the combined efforts of Satyakant, Boss (Surya) and Tauji to unite the lovers, and there is a further icing on the cake when it is known that young Surya had really not killed his school mate but got accidently killed. The full family reunites before the curtains drop down.
As expected the film revolves almost entirely around Akshay Kumar, playing the titular role of Boss. Akshay has to tread familiar grounds in lending his performance to this role, having enacted such roles in many masala action movies in the past. The fluency of Akshay’s acting gels well with the spontaneous flair of the veterans Mithun and Danny, both of whom bring out their characters appropriately. Ronit Roy as the wicked cop has to serve as the counterpoise to the daring do-gooder that is Akshay, and delivers his villainy with due abhorrence. While Aditi Rao Hydari’s role does not demand much more than a glamororus presence, Shiv Pandit manages to etch out a presence for himself, albeit in a relatively less challenging role than would suit his acting talents. The other noteworthy feature of the film is its musical score with a contemporary flavour, and though there are four separate composers involved there is homogeneity of the compositions which sync well with the overall mood of the film, and possess a good recall value. Overall, Director D’Souza has marshalled his resources cleverly to offer what he always wanted to in the garb of action packed masala thriller.
Verdict: For those who like this genre and are not overly bothered about the finer points of film making, this should prove to be a true entertainer.
