Romance is perhaps the most oft-repeated theme in world cinema, and Bollywood has not been an exception. Films that can stand out in this genre can only be those which have been dealt differently or have some element of uniqueness injected into the theme. For director Luv Ranjan Luv Ranjan is a director and writer. He has acquir >> Read More... who very successfully ventured into this theme in his very first film “Pyar Ka Punchnama”, the expectations from “ Akaash Vani Click to look into! >> Read More... ” would be high. His first film stood out for its comic look at romance, with refreshing real life situations factored in.

Plot: As the name suggests, Akaash and Vani are the main protagonists of the story and the characters are portrayed by Kartik Tiwari Kartik Tiwari is a Bollywood film actor, who is al >> Read More... and Nushrat Bharucha Who will forget the dictator and bossy girlfriend >> Read More... respectively. They study in the same college and normally travel together to college. Before it is too late, love develops between them and they continue their courtship for four years till they reach the final year. It is now that they get separated, with Akaash going abroad for higher studies while Vani goes to Dehradun for her sister’s marriage.

Things start to queer up from here onwards with Vani realising that her family may not support her alliance with Akaash. While she is still to recover from this shock, her sister runs away from her marriage, bringing the further crisis in the family. In a panic reaction he parents get Vani hurriedly married, and the man turns out to be a most unworthy and arrogant match for her. Caught in a dilemma she keeps on shuttling between her tyrant of a husband and her parents’ home, when by chance she meets Akash in Delhi and seeing the suffering of Vani wants to take her away, with both of them again realising they were indeed in love and could find happiness together. Finally, Vani picks up all her courage to take a divorce and walk away from her parents and move over to Delhi for pursuing a course in Management. Finally, Akaash and Vani are seen reunited and getting married.

Review: Quite different in its treatment of his debut film, Luv Ranjan treats this as a traditional love story without modern trappings or clichés, with the romantic moments very much reminiscent of the good old days when courtship was conducted in person and not through finger toggling messages back and forth. Ranjan deals with a very simple theme with a good deal of finesse and emotion, and although the happy ending is foreseen, it does not appear manipulated or hastily achieved. Happily, no provision has been made in the script for a traditional villain, and the fisticuffs that take place to arrive at the climax.

Star Performances: The acting of the main protagonists of the film has been entirely appropriate, considering that both Kartik and Nushrat are relative newcomers. In fact, Nushrat has to deliver exact role and she comes up with a sensitive display. The supporting cast has also delivered their roles in a manner that supports the treatment chosen by the director. Romantic films always get embellished through good cinematography and, in this case; Sudhir Chaudhary Bio coming soon... >> Read More... delivers well. The only link which seems somewhat inadequate is the musical score in the movie which somehow misses out on catching the old world romantic flavour.

Verdict: For those who love the simple, unfettered traditional type of romance, this film should prove to be satisfying, and those who liked Luv Ranjan’s earlier movie would like this too but for different reasons.
