Allen attended Seaholm High School where he acted in theater class and played piano. He then went to Central Michigan for college and then transferred to Western Michigan. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in communications. Allen’s career was started as a comedian in 1975. Based on a friend’s dare he got up and performed at a local club one night.
