Plot

The plot of the story revolves around a woman named Val. She is from Pernambuco. Val and her daughter Jessica lived together. However, Val decides to move to São Paulo to provide her daughter a better life. Val doesn’t have much money to afford a house so, she left her daughter with a caretaker. She worked as a full time house maid for a affluent family in another city. Val also needs to take care of Don Carlos’s son, Fabinho. Over the years Val and Fabinho formed a close relationship. She treated Fabinho as if he is her son.

One day Jessica calls Val to tell her that she wants to live with her for few months as she prepares for her entrance exam. Val gets excited as she gets to see Jessica but they haven’t met in years and Jessica is now 18 years old. When Val asks Dona Barbara, the head of the house for the permission to let Jessica stay with her in their house. When Jessica arrives she is made to remain in a cramped room where Val usually lives. She is shocked to see her mother’s living conditions. So Jessica refused to live in such a small room. Dona Barbara’s husband Don Carlos developed romantic feelings for Jessica. He even proposed to her, but Jessica refused. Don Barbara doesn’t like Jessica's staying in their home as she passed the entrance exam for the University of São Paulo. But Fabinho didn’t. Barbara mistreats Jessica, as she doesn’t even allow her to play in their water pool with Fabinho. On realizing this, Jessica leave the house and finds an apartment for herself in the city. As Fabinho leaves for Australia to spend his holidays, Val decides to leave her job and spend her remaining life with her daughter. On living with Jessica she finds out about Jessica’s son whom Jessica gave to a caretaker as Val did to her. Val asks Jessica to bring her grandson home. All of them live together.

Star performance

The main character of the story is Val. Regina Casé played her role. Val is a live-in house maid at Don’s house. She is a motherly figure in the movie. Regina presents her character beautifully. She added depth to Val’s actors by portraying Val as a unique and intense character.

Camila Márdila plays Jessica's character. Jessica is not a spoiled kid, instead she is a perfect girl who just longs for her mother. In the film Camila beautifully showed Jessica as the victim of the social discrimination that exists in the American society. She delivered a nuanced performance. Other supporting casts like Michel Joelsas, Karine Teles, Lourenço Mutarelli, Helena Albergaria, and Luci Pereira have also performed exceptionally.
