Plot
Lara Brennan is found accused of murdering her own boss. Despite her claims, no evidence proves her innocence. Finding no other option to get her out, her husband John decides to go for the unconventional method: break her out of jail! Will he succeed?
Star Performances
Paul Haggis takes an unconventional job and makes a brilliant, edge-of-the-seat thriller out of this.
With superb support from a seasoned actor like Russell Crowe, Paul Haggis manages to deliver a surprisingly good action flick. Elizabeth Banks and Brian Dennehy also pack a punch with their respective roles.
Analysis
A husband decides to end the troubles faced by his wife, by making her escape the jail. Wait, this is not a regular commercial potboiler from Bollywood, but a directorial by Paul Haggis, that is both brilliant and surprisingly engaging!
The plot might some ludicrous, but with a generous dose of realism, and an effective narrative, writer cum director Paul Haggis makes this believable. He also shows the emotional duress in which a couple is in, for no fault of theirs. The fact that the couple is played by actors like Russell Crowe and Elizabeth Banks makes it even more special. Russell is well known for his versatility, but his enactment of John Brennan, who will do anything to save his wife, is phenomenal.
Brian Dennehy as John’s father makes his presence, even with limited screen time. Even Liam Neeson as the former inmate leaves a solid impression. However, one of the few flaws, apart from the rushed ending, is the presence of the suspicious detectives, played by Jason Beghe and Aisha Hinds. As the antagonists, they are meant to make the job of the lead actor/ actress more difficult. However, their attempts against Russell are anything but menacing.

Verdict
‘The Next Three Days’ is a thriller that not many expected to be brilliant. However, as the time proceeds, you are glued to your seats until the very end, thanks to a solid screenplay. If you a fan of good, edge-of-the-seat thrillers, do watch it!
