Survival Of The Dead Movie Review

Survival of the Dead is a horror film and is the sixth installment of Night of Living Dead series starring Alan Van Sprang, Kenneth Welsh and Kathleen Munroe in main roles.

Plot: This movie picks up the trail to where the last movie concludes Guard Sergeant “Nicotine” Crockett who rob the previous movie’s protagonists with the help of his allies Kenny, Francisco and Tomboy who all leave their respective duties. The scene then cuts to two Ireland where two feuding Irish families are shown, the O’Flynns and the Muldoons. Muldoons are trying to protect their undead loved ones who are in danger from the Flynns. Patrick Flynn, the head of the family thinks of killing all of them but instead in a terrible gunfight kills a woman instead. But he refrains from killing the children and surrenders his weapons. Meanwhile the Muldoons arrive and think whether to kill him or let him go as he saved their children, Patrick’s daughter Janet proposes that he be exiled from the island.

Meanwhile, Tomboy learns of the Plum Island where zombies might be found, through Patrick’s video instructions they reach to a nearby dock and Francisco bites off the finger of a Zombie in order to escape in a ferry that they stole. Meanwhile, all of Patrick’s family except Patrick is killed by Zombies and he escapes with Crockett and friends. He further reveals that he has sent few people to Plum Island to make Muldoons furious. When the group arrives at Plum Island they discover that the people sent by Patrick are deceased and the Muldoons have chained up their zombies so as to imitate them.

Patrick watches her daughter Janet now a zombie, riding a horse. Later Patrick gathers allies to fight against the zombies but faces a tough retaliation. Meanwhile, Crockett comes to know that Janet is still as the one they saw earlier was her twin sister Jane. The rest of the story sees the demise of one of the friends of Crockett and how they manage to survive out of the damn island while Patrick is left off there and turning up against the zombies and the Muldoons.

Analysis: Guys! To be honest, this movie is does not meets the expectations of the regular zombie movie. Though, the attempt to “wake” the already dead script is felt every time, as if the characters are convincing us that the storyline is not that “Dead” and is actually making you fear but sadly nothing of that sort happens. Screenplay is admirable to an extent but again the characters haven’t got much choice.

Star Performances: Though there were no stellar performances to quote, I must say that the four friends and Patrick managed to steal the show a wee bit.

What's there?

 • Usual zombie storyline only upgraded to a certain extent.

• Strong acts which hide the blemishes of the script.

• Screenplay is admirable.

What's Not There?

• Script falls haplessly.

• Zombies are lukewarm in their scare quotient.

Verdict: Please save your time and watch some other zombie hack and slash instead of this movie. But still if zombies are what you crave for and cannot find a movie in your collection then maybe you might want to give this movie a shot.
