Plot:  Jack (Robert) is a parole officer and has a wife Madelyn (Frances), the film starts with Madelyn getting her daughter ready for bed, as soon as she does that she goes to Jack and says she is done with their marriage, Jack straight goes to their daughter’s bed and threatens to fling her out of the window if she leaves her, terrified Madelyn shuts the window down and kills an insect that was long buzzing in and was getting out but gets crushed, eventually she gives in and all returns to normal. Later Jack has a phone call that his brother has died, he and his wife go to his wife with Jack confessing that how his brother did not punish him when he hammered him down with a real hammer.

Later he assesses a new inmate called Gerald “Stone” Creeson, while Stone has an upper edge over him, playing with his mind and what not, while Jack still proves to be a tough nut to crack he gets a little disturbed by Stone’s point-blank questions and cold statements about his past mistakes and what he thinks of them. He later teams up with Lucetta(Milla), his wife, to seduce him and make him lousy, he also manipulates him making him uncomfortable all the time, to reduce stress he goes to local church to sooth himself. But trouble does not end for Jack; Lucetta constantly calls him to give in to her sexual desires to which he ultimately succumbs to. Devastated over this, he shows the erratic attitude towards his co-workers and his wife. He decides on freeing Jack of his prison time by assessing him with positive feedback.

Stone asks about this only to be given a blank talk by Jack. Later, as his retirement day draws close, he again shows up his stingy, arrogant side to everyone, realizing this to be Stone’s doing he rushes to his apartment and threatens to kill him only to be shocked by stone’s calm and composed self and eventually told that he had not got the thing in him to pull the trigger and exits. Later in the conclusion it is shown that Madelyn has parted ways with Jack and now leaves alone, Jack Meanwhile, prepares for his retirement and later on ironically hears the insect buzzing when he tried to throw his daughter out of the window. And as the film is about to close he looks up.

Analysis: I seriously do not know what went wrong with this movie; this movie had everything an audience could ask for, Brilliant actors and a good story but it all fell flat. With no solid direction given to an otherwise nice story, Stone leaves you stoned and shocked in disbelief.

Star Performances: Do we even need to speak this? Robert De Niro and Edward Norton complement each other so well that you forget the movie and just focus on the chemistry of these two. The tensions that rise between the two give this movie a little hope to carry on.

Verdict: Please save yourselves from this movie, though this movie could have fared well in terms of plot and suspense creation does not just do and I am saying that out of a heavy heart as this movie has got some of the finest actors.
