The flick Metropia is a 2009 movie. The movie was made in English. The movie is an adult movie that is intertwined with features as mystery and science fiction in it. The movie has been made using animation techniques and is a typical animation noir. The movie’s screenplay is by Fredrik Edin, Stig Larsson, and Tarik Saleh. The movie uses a different animation technique and gives the audiences a novel experience. The movie is about a disturbed man with good intentions. He leads an imaginary life wherein he is surrounded by worst nightmares.
Plot: Vincent Gallo does a call center worker who is used to hearing voices in his head. He finds out that there is a plan to carry out sabotage in Europe’s underground rail network. The backdrop of the plot is in some nondescript place in Europe. The movie goes ahead in time to 2024 when a rail network running beneath the ground connects the whole of Europe. There are many poor workers who develop the network. One among them is Vincent Gallo.Vincent Gallo hears voices every time he goes near the underground rail network in Stockholm. He tries his level best to take a different way to avoid the place. One fine day, Roger realizes that somebody else has taken over his life. The company that runs the rail network has found a way to take over the minds of people and use it as a promotion for their venture. The best way to take over the minds of people is the distribution of shampoo; the company has found out. Now, Roger has to do something. He joins hands with Nina, who happens to be the former promoter of the shampoo. Actress Juliette Lewis has done the role of Nina in the movie.
Many scenes in the movie arrest the audiences’ attention. But, the movie has got a setback. It lacks the essential storyline that is compensated by visually dazzling scenes and a good voiceover. The animation by Saleh is worth watching and creates a dystopic world where the whole of Europe is a one pathetic urban slum. The director has come up with highly innovative ideas and creates an eerie atmosphere through the best of animation tricks.
Verdict: The quality of the movie’s narration appears to decline. But, the movie could be watched for the technical innovativeness.
