Plot

Naval captain Jonas Taylor, an expert naval officer, and a sea expert encountered an unknown danger in the unexplored recesses of the Mariana Trench, five years ago, a force that was supposed to be extinct, five years later, that massive creature ends up leaving another sea submersible of a Chinese oceanographer, Doctor Zhang, and his daughter Suyin, disabled, and stranded while the crew is trapped. Jonas Taylor is called to rescue the crew from a prehistoric 75-foot-long shark known as the Megalodon. All the crew on board including Jonas now must fight to survive the dangers of the pre-historic creature by combating their fears and using the only resources they are left with.

Star Performance

Jason Statham “Dominick Toretto, you don’t know me…you’re about >> Read More... is being Jason Statham, with his one style universal acting without any versatility, his action scenes are good, apart from that I find it hard to pinpoint any actor who portrayed their characters ironically. Rainn Wilson is incredible like always.

Analysis

Megalodon is a massive shark and lived around 3.6 million years ago, the creature was a scary beast and I think the movie has done a good job with the CGI and the horror and thriller genre is perfectly set as one experiences all these feelings watching the movie. It is almost inspired by Jurassic Park and Jaws, while Jaws was a phenomenal film of its time, Meg failed to live up to the theme but was still widely loved as it was entertaining to watch Jason Statham fight a pre-historic creature.

What’s There

  • The movie has good CGI, making Megalodon come alive in all its digital senses.
  • Rainn Wilson is iconic in every character he plays.

What’s Not There

  • The lack of memorable acting or dialogues turns this into yet another almost boring sci-fi with a predictable storyline.

Verdict

Meg fails to stand out amongst many other movies of the same theme. Would I pay to watch Jason Statham act like he does in any other action movie and fight a 75-foot-long creature? Possibly not but it is still an okay watch and would not bore you. If you are a fan of action thrillers meets science fiction, Meg might be a fun watch for you, If you are a Rainn Wilson fan like me, you would not enjoy Meg unless Wilson comes on screen but whatever may be your excuse Meg can be an entertaining 2-hour passable movie, good enough for a one time watch, nevertheless.
