She is 29, about to get married, and the only job which is waiting on her table is the owner of her mother’s restaurant. Despite all this, she decides to stay in the dingy quarters of Manhattan, with her boyfriend. What makes her do that?

Plot

The movie starts off with showing Lola (Greta Gerwig) radiant and ever smiling. Her marriage date is around the corner. She manages to fit into her wedding dress. Just three weeks before her wedding, her long- time boyfriend Luke ( Joel Kinnaman Joel Kinnaman is a Swedish-native actor born on 25 >> Read More... ), calls it quits. What follows from there is a struggle to find a place for herself in this world, without her boyfriend. Her friends Alice and Henry, try a great deal to help her out with coming out of the breakup.

Lola lives in a sitcom sort of an arrangement, where the realities of life hit her, very hard. The only constants in her life are the consoling and the jilts that she faces from her best friends, who themselves are in a complicated relationship.

Star Performances

Lola’s character had a charm in it; she is a tribute to every normal woman who braves all the odds that challenge them. Lola, played by Greta Gerwig,  is a sweet person, and Greta portrays as aptly as she could. Zoe Lister Jones shines in her performance and matches the superlative performance of Greta in some scenes. Joel Kinnaman does his role with negative shades, with proficiency. 

Analysis

The movie is a real depiction of how a woman feels when she has been suddenly abandoned by the man she loved the most. Over time, Lola had developed a strong bond with her boyfriend, and she thought he was the right man for her, till he dumped her.

One can relate with the character of Lola. 

What’s not there?

The treatment of the movie could have been more intense.
