The movie was screened in some Film Festivals. Benjamin Bratt plays the role of Che Rivera in the movie. His younger days are in San Francisco where he leads a difficult life, and finds it difficult to make the ends meet. He is a tough guy, and people in the vicinity hold high regard for the man.Â
Also, people admire his strength and male-macho appearance. Also, he has the talent of assembling cars. He has undergone rigorous imprisonment and is gathering himself after heavy bouts of alcoholism. Che is now struggling to take stock of his life. He has to care his son Jesse, who has had paternal care alone following the death of Jes’s wife.Â
Che holds extreme affection for his son Jesse played by Jeremy Ray Valdez. But a twist awaits the audience. Although both father and son hold a deep love for each other, a surprising realization comes their way. Both are supposed to come to terms with the realization that, even in the purest form of love, there is the motto ‘Give and Take.'
There is a darker side to Jesse. Testing times await Che as he finds that his only son Jesse is a homosexual. In a fit of rage, Che throws out his boy. Now, Erika Alexander comes into the movie as Che’s attractive neighbor Lena. She wants him to ponder on his past and take stock of the present.Â
There was a mixed response from film critics. The main comment by critics is - whether or not the director knows how to take movies, he takes care of the character around which the plot revolves. The director knows his characters inside out. Benjamin Bratt does the role of Che, a reformed male-macho bus driver.Â
He has done his role commendably. The movie’s screenplay appears to be a shoddy patchwork. There is a lot of unnecessary brawl in the movie and heated arguments which finally land up the movie in action scenes.Â
Also, when the director tries to come near the plot of the movie, he does so with two or three less impressive and dragging scenes. Such boring scenes send only yawns across the audiences. Beyond the relationship between father and son, the movie throws light on a community. But, the movie dialogues do not sound like normal conversations or arguments. If the movie had given greater priority to the relationship between father and son, it would have drawn repeat audiences to the theaters.
But, the movie is worth watching for a rare actor as Bratt, who does not make frequent onscreen appearances.
