Plot

The movie focuses on Dinesh D’Souza’s point of view regarding the Democratic Party of America. It is a documentary-styled movie based on political propaganda. It starts with Dinesh recounting on his imprisonment over some illegal political campaigning fund. He victimized his arrest in this documentary by an argument that the state struck back at him for his previous documentation on the Democratic President. What is the motive of this documentary? Why did the US need to be a part of the Democratic party? D’Souza tries to provide reasons for these suggestions in the movie.

Star Performances

The movie features real-life characters rather than actors. Dinesh De’Souza is the central figure who directed, acted, and even provided commentary in this film. His performance is heavily influenced by his personal bias and agendas. Except for a few over-dramatic acts, he performed his part with conviction and confidence. The performances of the various reenactments, playing political leaders in the film, felt deprived of a basic understanding of their characters. It felt as if they were portraying these political entities from Dinesh’s point of view rather than relying on their research. Their performances primarily serve as a vehicle to convey the relevant and necessary information.

Analysis

The movie is a documentary directed by Dinesh De’Souza that puts forth what he thinks and perceives as the truth about the Democratic Party and how it impacted the history of the society of the USA. Throughout the documentary, Dinesh is focused on a specific message, and the whole narration of the film is structured around that message. But rather than providing a balanced perspective, he highlights his personal biases throughout the movie which limits the movie’s appeal to the audience. The film primarily features Dinesh himself along with various other political figures and reenactments of the historical events and interviews conducted with various other entities which help support the director’s point of view. As most of the cast of the film is playing their real self in the film, there is hardly any scope for bad performance. However, at times, Dinesh’s performance feels too loud and distracted from the film’s credibility. There is nothing to praise about the cinematography of this film. The movie heavily relies on the original recordings, footage, and stock imagery which acts as evidence for the director’s perceived truth. The editing of the film largely follows a linear pattern which is supported by Dinesh’s commentary, historical anecdotes, and clips of interviews to support the narrative of the film.   It lacks nuances and is just passable. The film feels objective and only presents the conservative side of history. It did explore the other side of the coin and feels misleading. It feels like an attempt to criticize a particular community and sensationalize its acts.

What’s There?

•         It’s a documentary about the Democratic Party and its impact on American history.

•         The dialogues of the film are quite exhilarating.

What’s Not There?

•         The film’s lack of objectivity and non linear framework fails loses the audience’s interest.

•         The film mainly displays a biased point of view.

•         There is a lack of credibility about the information given in the film.

•         Poor cinematography adds up to the negatives of the film.

•         The editing of this film is sloppy and vague.

Verdict

This documentary’s main goal is to raise questions about Dinesh’s arrest and victimize him. It serves as a medium to represent Dinesh’s perceived idea and truth about the Democratic Party and its effects on American history. The audience should watch it as the director’s agenda and should rely on other informative sources to understand an unbiased and balanced picture of the scenario represented in the film. One should watch this film with the clear idea that this is made to persuade rather than entertaining.
