Plot
The film’s protagonist is Miles Hill, played by Alex Neustaedter, a youngster wishing to be a motocross racer. While Miles was out training, he found a robotic dog. The robotic dog was A.X.L., short for attack, exploration, logistics, and was made by Craine Systems for military use. Miles and A.X.L. bond during the time they spend together and A.X.L. uses its owner-pairing technology to pair with Miles. Miles is worried that someone may come after A.X.L. and thus seeks the help of a smart acquaintance Sara Reyes, played by Becky G. When Sara and Miles leave A.X.L. in Sara’s hideout to go talk to Miles’ father for help in hiding A.X.L.’s whereabouts, Sara’s friend Sam, played by Alex McNicoll attacks A.X.L. along with his friends and burns A.X.L. When Miles and Sara return, A.X.L. gives them the location of a warehouse where A.X.L. can repair himself. Craine Systems sent men to track down A.X.L. and bring it back and these men are notified when A.X.L. uses the warehouse for repairs. The film follows A.X.L. and Miles as they fight against all odds to stay together.
Star Performance
The entire cast performs well. The protagonists have good chemistry together.
Analysis
The film fails at maintaining its pace. The special effects team does not do justice to the robotic dog because it varies between looking futuristic and looking like a poorly built puppet.
What’s There?
• The film portrays the bond that develops between a boy and a robotic dog that chooses its owner and bonds with them for life
• The film combines science-fiction and drama
What’s Not There?
• The film is predictable and boring
• The film does not maintain the robotic dog’s appearance throughout the film
Verdict
The film does not have a captivating storyline and features mediocre performances. The characters seem one-dimensional and underdeveloped. Although the film has a good concept, it fails to execute the idea as it omits some crucial venues unexplored in the film. So, the film would be a good watch for science-fiction and drama enthusiasts.
