Madhu, Priyanka Chopra’s mother has said that the decision to come out with Sikkimese movie Pahuna emerges with the intention to gather knowledge about the state, and not essentially to uplift the North East region. The movie Pahuna is being made under the production banner Purple Pebble Pictures. When asked whether producing the movie throws much limelight on the North East region, Madhu said that Priyanka is the brand ambassador of Assam Tourism.

Another thing is that the movie in Sikkimese is emerging. The move is not essentially to create an uplift, but to gather knowledge about them. The plot of the movie Pahuna is about three Nepali children who are separated from their parents, while they fled the Maoist agitation from Nepal to Sikkim. Most of the cast and many technicians in the movie are from Sikkim. One does not know their lifestyle, and also that they are kind people. Also, Priyanka’s mother added that the movie showcases the talents of Sikkimese.
