Anu Menon
, the Award-winning filmmaker, is all set to script a story based on her hometown Delhi. In a recent interview to a leading daily, Anu was quoted saying, "I'm dying to write a Delhi-based story. At the time I was writing a film on Delhi, many Delhi-based films were happening. That is why it couldn't materialize. Now, I am waiting to make a movie which is set in the Delhi in the '80s. I don't know if I am romanticizing my past, but while I grew up here, I never felt or heard of all this sexism that we talk about now. I had a very middle-class upbringing as a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, living in East of Kailash. I am a Tamilian, but I always say that I am a Punjabi-Madrasi. I started working here in advertising and I used to stay at Jhandewalan. I even used to drive late at night in my Maruti from work, and I don't remember ever feeling unsafe. Delhi was never an aggressive place. I want to talk about that era. It was a positive era and there was a lot of progressive thinking. In the late '80s, the culture was different. Everyone used to watch all kinds of films, and now, I feel some pockets of Delhi and perhaps Gurgaon, are more open to certain kinds of cinema."
