Balakrushna Das was a prominent vocalist and musicologist in the state of Odisha. He was born on 21 May 1923 in the Basantapedi village in Odisha. His love for music came from his father, Dinbandhu Das, and his mother, Kamala Devi. On the advice of his music teacher, Das was sent to the Gotipua Guru to learn more about vocal music. Akshaya Mohanty was born on October 12, 1936, in Cuttack, to Bichitrananda Mohanty and Subarna Manjari Mohanty. He had no formal musical training.
