He has a brother named Ali Hashmi. He also has an aunt named Salima Hashmi, a well-known educational personality. She is a supporter of the nuclear disarmament campaign. He has been married to Nina Ajmal since 2011. He studied for a Masters of Business Administration in Business Management at Imperial College, London and a Masters of Fine Arts at the Academy of Art University, San Francisco, United States.

In July 2015, he became the only Pakistani invited to speak on the Role of Pakistani Youth in Shaping the Political Agenda at the Centre for Muslim States and Societies at the Western Australia University in Perth and South Australia University in Adelaide. He is a skilled coach and mentor. He was a teacher at the University of California and taught acting, communication, and writing courses at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS).

The Faiz Festival, an annual literary and performing arts festival, was established in 2015 by Adeel Hashmi. He was also the chief organizer of the 2015 festival. He is still a regular performer at the annual festival, presenting poetry or prose recitations and hosting cultural events. In 2009, he established Faiz Foundation Trust, a non-profit organization to promote art, culture, and literature. He was the chairman of the Punjab Film Censor Board, an Artist Welfare Committee member chaired by Pakistan's President, which provided financial aid to poor artists. He has also received certification as a classical pianist and teaches young children. He has designed and conducted trainings for UNICEF, UNDP, UNESCO, Action Aid, The British Council, European Union, and Commonwealth Broadcasting Association.
