Wanniarachchige Damayanthi Priyalatha Fonseka, commonly known as Damayanthi Fonseka, is a well-known actress in Sri Lankan cinema and television. She is correspondingly a producer and a director. She was born on 25th August 1960 in Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. She was born to Gilbert Fonseka, who worked at a Government Press, and Seelwathie Fonseka who was a housewife. She has 11 siblings. She began acting at the age of ten as a child actor while she was in school. She performed in the short film Piyek Saha Minisek. Her first teen cinematic presence came through the film Madol Duwa directed by Lester James Peries. Her foremost screened film was Edath Suraya Adath Suraya.

She performed in many successful films like Umayangana, Dolosmahe Pahana, Angulimala, Shakthiya Obai Amme, and Prathiroo. She made two movies directed by her husband, Purahanda Kaluwara and Anantha Rathriya. She also produced the film Guru Geetha directed by Upali Gamlath. She established a drama school in 2013. She has performed in many television serials like Hopalu Arana, where she played the role of a villain and also won an award for it.

She earned a Jury award for her performance in the stage play Avi and then got a Special Merit award for the film Umayangana in the 1993 Sarasaviya Film Festival. She has directed the television serial Rankiri Amma, in which her sister Malini played the lead role. She has also directed the teledrama Iragala Nekatha and the stage play Gasthuwa Keeyada. She has produced two stage plays Gasthuwa Keeyada and Parana Pinak. She has also produced Popiyana Uyana.
