Uthum Pathum is a Sinhala drama that started airing on Sirasa TV on 25^th August 2014 and went off air on 5^th August 2016.

Utpala and Kelum are cousins. Utpala’s mother and Kelum’s father are siblings. Kelum and Utpala have another cousin, Varuni. Her family is wealthy, and Kelum’s family has a business relationship with Varuni’s family, and they are close. Kelum is in love with Varuni. Unaware of his love story, Utpala loves Kelum. Mayantha is a common friend of Utpala and Kelum. As he has no siblings, he is affectionate to Utpala. After completing her education, Utpala joins Mayantha’s office. As Kelum doesn’t like Mayantha, he hates Utpala working for him. Mayantha’s business, which was in the verge of shutting, starts flourishing due to Utpala’s efforts. Mayantha and his father, Sathama, feel proud of Utpala.

Kelum wants to irritate Utpala and decides to marry Varuni. His decision comes as a huge shock to Utpala and her parents. As Utpala’s parents discuss Utpala’s love for Kelum with his parents, they decide to get him married to her. Unaware of Kelum’s intentions, Utpala marries him happily. After their marriage, Kelum insults Utpala at every chance he gets, and Varuni supports him. She is forced to divorce Kelum, and finally, he marries his lady love, Varuni. Mayantha’s family supports Utpala, and helps her relieve stress. Soon, Utpala’s family shifts their residence to another town, where they are comforted by their relatives. Utpala meets Ranmal, and she suggests him improve his business. Soon, Utpala and her family return to Colombo.

After some time, Ranmal’s parents visit Utpala’s parents and suggest that Utpala and Ranmal get married. As she knows about Ranmal, Utpala agrees to their proposal. Meanwhile, Kelum is affected by an incurable disease and is abandoned by everyone at home, including his wife. Kelum’s parents plead with Utpala to visit him once. Finally, she visits Kelum. Utpala forgets everything and helps Kelum. He apologizes for his behaviour. Soon, Kelum’s mother, who learns that Utpala’s marriage is fixed to Ranmal, turns furious and vows to stop the marriage. Will Utpala and Ranmal marry? The rest of the story follows this.
