Kulwant Singh Bhamra, a Birmingham-based performer, is a renowned vocalist and songwriter with over 35 years of experience in the music industry. He rose to notoriety as the lead vocalist, songwriter, and composer for the band Apna Sangeet. The band grew from three to six members, and their debut album, 'Apna Sangeet,' was released in 1986, gaining them the Upcoming Band award at the 1986/87 Pop Awards. Kulwant's lyrical skills shined through on songs like "Nach Piyan Muttiaran," "Gur Nalon Ishq," and "Akhiyan Laake." Apna Sangeet's albums 'Tour India' (1987) and 'Mera Yaar' (1988) launched them to superstardom, and songs like 'Veer Te Phena Da,' 'Nach Nach Kuriye,' and 'Mera Yaar Vajave Dhol' established Bhamra as a top Bhangra singer, earning him the Best Band title at the 1987/88 UK Asian Pop Awards.
International tours, as well as Kulwant's solo record 'Overdrive' (1992), cemented his position as a top Bhangra musician. He teamed with G. Mall and developed the successful 'Blaster' series, featuring albums like 'Music Blasters' and 'Ragga Blasters'. Kulwant continued to work as a solo artist and worked with a number of well-known musicians, with tremendous success. His greatest accomplishment was his musical contribution to Punjabi MC's 'Mudiyan To Bach Ke,' where his tumbi sound acquired international recognition and drove Bhangra music into the mainstream. The song 'Beware Of The Boys' hit number 5 on the UK Singles chart in 2002, creating history when the team featured on Top Of The Pops.
