Passing out of NSD, Channi chose the city of Chandigarh as his playground for street theatre and took students from the city College of Arts and staging excellent productions such as Daffa 144 and Disturbed Area. Gurcharan Channi is known as a Dynamic Artist. Gurcharan Channi, as an Actor, worked in movies such as Gandhi (1992), Thes (1985), The Legend of Bhagat Singh (2002), Punjab 1984 (2014), Shareek (2015), and Sajjan Singh Rangroot (2018). Gurcharan Channi’s insightful and well-researched film is Dharmakshetra Kurukshetra.

Gurcharan Channi received Sangeet Natak Akademi’s National Award for Community Theatre, and Gurcharan Channi Served as Chairman of Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi. Gurcharan Channi was a Fulbright Scholar at the Boston University College of Communication. Gurcharan Channi died on 20th May 2021 in Chandigarh, India, due to Complications from COVID-19.
