Gopal Ghosh is an Indian actor, director, and filmmaker. He worked in the Ollywood industry and earned a lot of fame. He was born on 1st May 1920 in Raghunathpur village in Jagdishpur, Cuttack. Gopal Ghosh was a director and also acted in many popular movies. He died in 2015 due to a cardiac arrest. Gopal has been interested in acting since childhood. He performed for the first time in life at the early age of six. He acted in a theatre play, Bhakta Dhruba. Later, he joined the Janta Rang Manch. He was inspired by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and donated his two rare books to the Netaji Birthplace Museum. He bought the two books Bharat Pathik and Subhas Chandra Ra Antardhyan from Calcutta.

The former is an autobiography by Subhas Chandra Bose and the latter one is the story of his magical escape. Ghose worked as a director in more than 50 films. His movies Amari Gaon Jhia (1953), Sri Loknath (1960), Bhari Bhagya (1965), Ghara Sansara (1972), and Amar Prema (1977) got a tremendous response from the audience. He has also acted in many movies and gained appreciation. His movie Sri Jagannath received immense love from the audience, and was awarded the President’s Award in 1960. He was the first filmmaker to work on more than 40 documentaries for the Information and Public Relations Department.

From 1984 to 2005, he made documentary films for the Cuttack Doordarshan Kendra and the Bhubaneswar Doordarshan. His documentary Black Pagoda (1949) was highly appreciated. He gave breaks to many new actors and actresses in his movies. He also introduced the Ollywood industry with many new technical personalities. He was honored with the Orissa Living Legend Award in 2014. He was also awarded with the Orissa Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1997-98 for his incredible performances.

Gopal was also fond of football and played for various clubs. Rovers Club, Young Utkal Club, and Orissa Athletics Club are some of them. The actor, director, and filmmaker Gopal Ghosh died at the age of 94, in February 2015 due to a cardiac arrest. He died in the SCB Medical College and Hospital. His last rites were done in the Khang Nagar Crematorium. Many actors and personalities from the industry paid homage to the great actor Gopal Ghosh. He gave multiple assets to the Oria film industry.
