Born on 8th August 1892, Mohan Sundar Deb Goswami was a film direction and poet from Odia. He has predominately worked in the Odia film industry and is known as the Father of Odia cinema.
His legendary music record contains different types of Odissi classical music such as – champu, bhajna, chhanda, kirtana, jannana, and chaupadi. Mohan Sundar Deb Goswami produced the first Odia film Sita Bibaha in 1936 and has made his appearance there, it is the first film to hit the silver screen in Odisha. Despite the poor facilities in the film industry Mohan Sundar Deb Goswami, with all his dedication and passion he wrote the script of Sita Bibaha along with Priyanath Ganguli. He made the film with a budget of 30000.
Makhan Lal played the role of Lord Ram, Prabati Debi played the role of Maa Sita. Goswami was a great vocalist and acquired appreciable skills in playing Nal, Jodi, table mrudhanga, sitar, flute, and many more and made an initiative to spread the spectacular Odissi dance and music.
Mohan Sundar Deb Goswami breathed his last on 11th January 1948, at the early age of 56, an award is announced every year in the loving memory of Mohan Sundar Deb Goswami.
