Nepali Singer Kumar Basnet

Kumar Basnet was born on 7 July 1943 in Nepal. He is a Nepalese songwriter, dancer, and folk singer. He started his career in 1960 and has given many hit songs, which made his singing career successful. Currently, he is a board member of the Nepal Film Board, Pratilipi Adhikar Sanrakshyaan Maanch, Nepal Music Society, and Sanskritik Sambardhan Parishad. He has given some major hits, such as Herda Ramo, Ama Bhanda, and Lai Bari Lai was featured in the Nepalese film Chhakka Panja. He achieved many awards in his career, such as Ratna Record Puraskar, Gorkha Dakshin Bahu-First, Birendra-Aishwarya Sewa Padak, and Tri Shakti Patta-Third. He did his schooling at Padmodaya High School in Kathmandu.

He joined an organization named Bhairav Nritya Dal, known for conducting cultural programs from where he became a famous dancer. In 2014 he went to Silong, Assam, for a cultural program. His continuous hard work and determination in his career made him a well-known figure. He passed his SLC in 2015 from Nandi Ratri. In 2016 he was admitted to Tri Chandra College, and during that course time, he got his job at Nepal Rastra Bank. In the same year, he gave an interview for the song recording, which was published on Radio Nepal and was selected by Prakashman Singh, Shyamdas Baishnav, and Dharmaraj Thapa.

He got married in 2023. He was interested in hunting, fishing, badminton, and football, apart from singing. He has recorded more than 200 songs and has been on many International Musical Tours. He participated in the International Folk Dance Competition in 1974, which was held in France, Belgium, and Germany. He also took part in the International Gala Night in 1978 in Bangladesh. In 2002, he was nominated by America for Man of the Year and honored by the Mayor of respective cities as Cultural Ambassador of Manchester and London.
