Fayyaz Hashmi was a poet and screenwriter from India and Pakistan. He was born in 1920 in Calcutta, India. He worked in both the Indian and Pakistani film industries. He had written some very popular songs, like Aaj Jaane Ki Zid Na Karo and Tasveer Teri Dil Mera Behela Na Sake Gi. Fayyaz's father, Muhammad Hussain Hashmi, was also a poet. His pen name was Dilgeer. In 7th grade, he wrote his first poem, Chaman Mein Ghuncha-O-Gul Ka Tabassum Dekhne Walo - Kabhi Tum Ne Haseen Kaliyon Ka Murjhana Bhi Dekha Hai. His first written song was Sab Din Ek Samaan Nahin Tha. He wrote 2000+ songs for films.
Fayyaz has worked as a film song lyricist for Kunwari Bewa (1956), Bedari (1957), Savera (1959), Saheli (1960), Raat Ke Rahi (1960), Aulad (1962), Paisey (1964), Eid Mubarak (1964), Tauba (1964), Sartaj (1965), Ashiana (1965), Lakhon Mein Aik (1967), Diya Aur Toofan (1969), Ilzaam (1972). He also worked as a writer and director in Hum Ek Hain (1961), Pehchan (1975), Gharibon Ka Badshah (1988). His achievements include the 'Graduate Award,' Nigar Award for 'Best Film Song Lyricist' in 1967, and the Nigar Award for 'Best Screenplay Writer' (1988). He left all of us on November 29, 2011, in Karachi, Pakistan.
