Motilal Upadhyay popularly known as Moti BA was born in Bereji, India on August 1, 1919, was a Bhojpuri poet, writer, and lyricist. He has written and delivered many Bhojpuri poems, novels, and lyrics of Bhojiwood(the Bhojpuri Industry which holds the authority for delivering cinema, and films in regional Bhojpuri Language) and Bollywood films. He received the Bhasha Samman Award in 2001 for his works in Bhojpuri cinema. He has written many songs and translated many English works in Bhojpuri.

Moti BA was born in Bereji village near Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh in India. He completed his school education at King George High School. He completed his Bachelor of Arts from Benaras Hindu University in 1938. From 1939 to 1943 he worked in the Editorial department of newspapers like Aaj, Agragami, and Sansar aur Aryavart. He became a renowned lyricist and musician between 1944 and 1952; he worked for Motiji Pancholi Art Pictures and Filmistan. In 1952 he started working as a lecturer at Shri Krishna Inter College in Deoria. He wrote many famous songs as a lyricist, especially his song in the movie Nadiya ke Paar. He died on 18 January 2009 at the age of 89.
