Kasoti (also known as Kasauti ) or the mastermind show was a beloved Pakistani television program that holds a special place in the hearts of many Pakistanis. The show, which first aired in the 1960s on Pakistan Television, ran for three years before being revived in the 1980s. Its popularity led to adaptations on other networks, with TvOne producing a version called Mastermind and STN creating That's It. The thing that kept Kasoti this famous was its hosts, Ubaidullah Baig (1936-2012) and Qureshpur (1932-2013). These two men were not only co-hosts but also close friends in real life, their deaths occurring just a year apart. Their chemistry and intellectual prowess made the show a unique and engaging experience for viewers. The format of Kasoti was simple yet captivating.

A guest would write down the name of a famous personality, building, animal, or any other well-known entity from around the world. The hosts, Baig and Qureshpur (later replaced by Ghazi Salahuddin), would then attempt to guess the answer by asking a maximum of 20 questions. The guest was only allowed to respond with yes or no, adding an element of challenge and excitement to the game. Impressively, the hosts managed to guess correctly about 90% of the time, showcasing their vast knowledge and deductive skills. In one episode Barrister S.M.Zafar was the guest. He was a leading Lawyer in Pakistan. He wrote the name of Cyril John Radcliffe. The hosts have to find that and they can only ask a limited set of close-ended answers. They asked questions relating to the nativity, gender, and whether the person is alive. Then they moved on to questions relating to his profession. These questions gave them a brief outlook, so they asked whether he was connected with ino-pak division. With two more questions they cracked the puzzle. Through this the viewers get an overview about the person mentioned.

Kasoti's success lay in its ability to combine education with entertainment. Viewers at home could play along, learning about various subjects while enjoying the hosts' impressive guesswork. The show became a cultural phenomenon, bringing families together in front of the television and sparking conversations about history, geography, and general knowledge. It represents a golden era of Pakistani television, when educational content was presented in an engaging and accessible manner. The passing of Ubaidullah Baig and Qureshpur marked the end of an era, but their contributions to Pakistani television and culture continue to be celebrated. Kasoti's format, which was adapted by many modern quiz shows, demonstrated the timeless appeal of knowledge-based entertainment. It set a high standard for educational programming in Pakistan and inspired similar shows in the years that followed.
