The family includes a middle-aged couple, Zahira and Zafar. They have three children- Haya, Saba and Amir. The family is like any other typical family. Each member has their struggle. They are not a happy family. Zahira and Zafar are quite irritated with each other.

None of them talk politely to each other. Their every conversation ends with a fight. Zahira is annoyed that her husband cannot provide her with a happy and luxurious life. Many times, when they were going through rough phases, Zahira had to borrow money from her brother. Zahira felt humiliated to do this. Zafar is annoyed because nobody respects him even though he is the only breadwinner. Amir has a bachelor’s degree and has been looking for a corporate job. He has not been able to land a single job. His parents often taunt him about being jobless. Amir wants a job related to his studies as they will be more high paying. But his parents want him to get any type of job that pays in the market so that he can take some financial responsibility for the home.

Saba is a college girl. She has a darker complexion than her family. She is considered ugly. Her friends and her mother taunt her about her complexion. Saba is often annoyed at this and calls herself ugly. She is always in a state of frustration. She has a short temper and reacts provocatively. She snaps at people around her. Her elder sister, Haya advises her to keep her appearance presentable and tidy. But Saba takes this the wrong way. Haya motivates her by saying that outer appearance does not matter, but personality and energy do, hinting that Saba should try to be polite to others. Saba’s mother wants Saba to get married and looks for prospects. But the prospects reject her every time because of her complexion.

Haya is engaged with her maternal aunt’s son, Arsal. Haya is quite happy to be his bride. But, Arsal is not a good person. He is short-tempered and egoist. Haya’s mother chose him because he was willing to marry a girl from a poor background. Haya knows this but has come to terms with it as she believes he is the right match. Things take a turn when Zafar loses his job. Zahira tries to postpone Haya’s wedding as they do not have any money to spend now. They go through a lot of struggles but still achieve zero results. Their life has given them nothing but barriers to their happiness.
