Sonthangal is the dubbed version of the Hindi television serial Phulwa, and it airs on Jaya TV. It originally used to broadcasted on Colors TV. It has a runtime of thirty minutes. The story is about a little girl who is sweet and caring. She is living in Madhya Pradesh, which is filled with dacoits and murderers. Everyday someone or the other dies. One day there is a huge fight in the village and she loses most of her family. Her innocence has now disappeared as she tries to stay alive in a new world. Her older brother, Bhavani, who is a bandit, starts taking care of her. Shankar is another bandit who hates Bhavani.

He thinks that Bhavani killed his brother his wife, and now he is planning to take revenge. He kidnaps Phulwa from his house and keeps her in his house as his wife, although they are not married. Shankar has a sister who is in love with Bhavani, but Bhavani doesn't reciprocate the same feelings. The village council after hearing the case decides that Phulwa and Shankar will continue to stay together as husband and wife. As time passes by, Shankar starts feeling bad towards Phulwa. He feels sad for taking her innocence away. He tries to make amends for his wrongful actions. Due to this, Phulwa starts liking him and calls him a teacher.

There is a distant relative who wants to marry Shankar, but he refuses to do so. He later learns that Chote Thakur is responsible for killing his brother. Thakur kidnaps Phulwa. Shankar and Bhavani go in search for her. Shankar and his parents are killed but Phulwa somehow manages to escape. She vows to take revenge on Thakur.
