The story revolves around hilarious incidents in a village involving gods, demons, and genies. With the power gone from the original village shrine, Podde Gurunnanse and his follower Sumane begin helping villagers with the aid of a genie gifted by his guru.

Conflict arises between Sumane and the genie over Sumane's wife Pushpa, whom the genie has fallen in love with. As the genie grows increasingly uncontrollable, especially after encountering a female genie, Poddi Gurunnanse abandons the shrine to make the male genie disappear. Suman is relieved by this decision as it will protect his wife. They move into a village teacher's house and open a new shrine. Mysterious problems soon begin occurring, even at the new shrine. Although believing the genie would not return, it pays Gurunnanse a visit within days. While now powerless, Gurunnanse retakes control of the genie to restart his exploits in the new shrine, continuing the humorous mystery.
