Deepani Silva, also known as Deepani de Silva, is popular veteran films and teledrama actress of Sri Lanka. She was born on 24th December and is the only film artist in her family. Her father D. Peter Silva is a trade union leader. She completed her higher education at the Buddhist Ladies’ College, Columbo. After acting in several street plays, she finally entered the film industry. Her acting career started in 1975 through acting in street dramas. Later, she joined Dhamma Jagoda’s theatre school. Before gaining the opportunities to establish her foot in Sinhala film industry, she worked in several teledrama serials including Ammai Thaththai, Doo Daruwo, Hathpana, Lokke Mama, Abuddassa Kolama, Thanradevi in early 1990s.
Deepani Silva made her debut in 1994 through Mee Haraka. She did supportive roles throughout her career, including playing the mother of a spoilt son in 2008 blockbuster film Machan. She’s well known for her roles in Seethala Gini Kandu (2002), Walapatala (2008), and Machan (2008). She was also featured in one of the cast in 2018 horror film Seya, which is historically first all - female lead film in Sri Lankan film industry. Some of her notable films are Machan, Walapatala, Heart FM, Ali Kathawa, Seya, Ginnen Upan Seethala and Aale Corona.
