Chakra is a television drama aired on ITN, the Independent Television Network of Sri Lanka. The series has quite an audience to itself because of the gripping plot, captivating character development, and themes of power, family drama, and supernatural elements brought together. Chakra is based on the backdrop of a contemporary urban setup, focusing on the lives of various families interlinked with one another by secrets, aspirations, and struggles. At the center stands the powerful Rangana, a patriarch in one of the most influential and wealthy families. His life has been veiled in mystery, as dark secrets seem to dog his past. Rangana is at the head of his family—totally in control—but his power and influence reach the family circle. It's a series tugging on relationships and family feuds within, especially between Rangana and his children. His eldest son, Amila, was being groomed to take up his father's business; however, he had other aspirations—he wanted to follow his dreams of acting. This brought on a dilemma of pleasing the father and pleasing himself.
Then there is Sithara, the daughter, who is strong-headed and a girl who likes to be independent; she rebels against her father in everything and is constantly creating turbulence within the family. The more the story unfolds, the more explicit it becomes that Rangana's power does not lie in only wealth and influence but in something even more sinister. Chakra brings in elements of the supernatural since Rangana is revealed to be practicing dark rituals that have been making him a person with extraordinary powers. The mystery and the element of suspense is instantly brought up: one keeps wondering what can be done with Rangana, what kind of powers are within him to what extent, and what all that means.
Even the very title Chakra means spiritual energies concentrated on different centers in the body, very central to its mysticism and supernaturalism discourses. Throughout the series, fate, destiny, and above all, the equation of good versus evil is tussled with by its characters. Chakra is also touting high production values, with impressive cinematography, well-done sets, haunting music that complements the atmosphere of the show. The performance from the cast is also praised, mainly the actor playing Rangana. He was so well written that he added great depths and nuance to the characters. Chakra does not only symbolize a supernatural taster but is also a social comment regarding corruption and moral degeneracy that actually accompany power. It makes viewers question life choices and the effects they make on the people surrounding them. By and large, Chakra is a thrilling drama that gives much food for thought—known for its blend of family drama, suspense, and supernatural elements. It happens to be one of the most remarkable series ever seen on Sri Lankan television.
