Hindi Web Series Hutatma - Season 1

Hutatma is a Hindi broadcast on the ZEE 5. This story is based on a novel by Meena Deshpande, named Hutatma, in the memory of Acharya Atre. In 1955, during the Diwali festival in Bombay, the children are burning crackers and in a family, siblings are fighting. Father wants to send his daughter, Vidyulata, aka Vidyut to Pune as he thinks Mumbai is not the same it as before. He belongs to a Marathi family and works in the Mafatlal factory. He works hard all day in the factory, and the boss takes credit and money for their hard word. Meanwhile, in the office of CM of Bombay, Morarji Desai, the CM is signing a document but does not want the media to know what decision he has made. Somehow the news gets leaked and gets printed in the paper. The news is that Maharashtra will be united with Mumbai. Maharashtra leader S.M. wants to Maharashtra to be united with Mumbai. Twenty-First is decided as the day when the labor union would strike and protest at the Vidhan Bhawan. Some people want this to happen while some are not. Senapati Bapat Ji is leading the protest. The problem is that the Marathi members are labors while the leaders and managers are all non-Marathi. Everyone believes in Comrade Dange and decide to take part. The laborers are still deciding whether to go to the strike or not.

Vidyut’s father is getting ready to go for work. Vidyut is out to see a movie with her friend when the riots are about to happen. The media knows this as the security has been tightened at every corner. Banners and slogans are being prepared. The Military, police force, and jeeps are located everywhere. A police inspector from Vidyut’s neighbor is just back home from night duty when his colleague comes to call him again. His wife is really angry with her husband for never being at home. This shows that the officials know that riots would go out of hand. Security is very high and guns are ready. The press has also arrived at the place of riots.

Vidyut is enjoying her movie while her father is at work. But he is sent back as there is a Marathi riot taking place. The rioters try to get into high security when the police start fighting. Vidyut’s movie is over, and she comes out of the cinema house to see her father amongst the riots. The buses are on fire. Her father is crossing the road when he gets shot right in front of Vidyut’s eyes. And the person to shoot him is the policeman from their neighborhood. Shocked Vidyut will fight for her father’s death.
