Cricket Star was aired from December 2006 to March 2007 on Doordarshan and Zee TV. It was an interactive talent hunt for the world's best young cricketer. The show was created by Emerging Media. This show helped to introduce Twenty-Twenty format of Cricket in India. In the show, the contestants were made to play a series of T20 matches to test their skills. Applications were invited nationwide, and after the screening, shortlisted candidates were called for auditions in their region.
A panel of celebrity judges, national selectors, and professional coaches chose ten participants who finally got to spend ten weeks in Cricket Star Academy. They went through a series of physical and mental challenges including cricketing tests. Based on the performance each week, the judges scored each pupil. The public voting through phone, text, or online eliminated a pupil each week until only two remains. The final selection was made by millions of television viewers in a dramatic last episode making
